I love a fine dining experience. Generally speaking, the food itself makes or breaks the experience, but there are other elements that contribute to a wonderful night out, like the quality of the service, and the ambiance of the atmosphere, or like making the restaurant clothing optional. A new restaurant called The Bunyadi just opened in London which allows patrons to dine completely nude.
The Bunyadi is all about being natural in every possible way. The restaurant has neither electricity nor natural gas, and the food is prepared over open flame. The décor of the restaurant is rustic and natural–wood hewn tables, separated by bamboo and wicker partitions. Lighting is by candlelight, so it’s a tad dim–which might be good news for those who are less exhibitionist, and bad news for those who are more voyeuristic.
The wait staff is semi-nude–adorned with strategically-placed fig leaves. Cellphones are not allowed in the restaurant, so you don’t have to worry about being the nude person photo-bombing someone’s food selfie.
Patrons are not required to partake in the nudist aspects of the restaurant experience. Just as there used to be smoking and non-smoking sections in restaurants (and still are in some less-enlightened areas), The Bunyadi will offer a choice between seating in the clothed section, or the naked section of the restaurant.
The experience will cost you up to $95 per person for food and drinks. Don’t rush out to try the nude dining experience this weekend or anything, though. The relatively small establishment seats less than 50, but as of opening day there was a wait list of 40,000 plus people vying to get in, and the restaurant is only open for the summer. Best case scenario is that you get your name on the wait list now, and maybe you get to eat there this year during the short window of opportunity.
I don’t know about you, but I am adding eating naked at The Bunyadi to my bucket list of things to do next time I visit London.
