Awesome device for both couples or solo pleasure, but it’s pricey.

I’m not sure what the “average” is when it comes to sex toys, but I would venture a guess that my wife and I are in the “above average” category when it comes to the number of toys we have available–at least compared to mainstream America. One of our favorite toys is the We-Vibe Plus 4 couples vibrator.

You might start by asking, “What is a ‘couples’ vibrator?” Well, as the name implies–it’s a vibrator for couples. Rather than your standard replica penis or obviously phallic vibrator that would more or less replace the man’s penis in the intercourse equation, the We-Vibe Plus 4 is designed in a way that it can be used simultaneously while intercourse is happening.

The We-Vibe itself is vaguely C-shaped, and roughly the size of a hand if you look at your hand from the side view–like you’re forming a letter C. It is designed primarily so that the G-spot stimulator side is inserted into the vagina, while the clitoral stimulator side is external and presses against the clitoris. Of course, that’s just the plain vanilla way to use it. Use your imagination.

It comes in a few different colors. We have the purple We-Vibe. The We-Vibe Plus 4 has a modern-looking plastic case that holds the We-Vibe itself and its remote control. It also recharges the We-Vibe while it’s in the base. I wouldn’t put the We-Vibe charging case out on the side table in the living room, but as far as sex toys go it’s fairly stealthy. If someone saw it on your dresser and didn’t know what a We-Vibe was I’m not sure “sex toy” would be the first thing that comes to mind.

The main thing that makes this a “couples” vibrator is that it’s small enough for the We-Vibe to be in place during intercourse. The vibration against the g-spot and clitoris heighten the experience for the woman, and the man also benefits from the vibration of against his penis. Having used the We-Vibe this way on multiple occasions, I can completely vouch for the fact that it is fun for everyone involved!

But, with this gadget that’s really just the beginning. The real magic of this device lies in its customizability and connectivity. There are a variety of options you can configure in terms of the speed, intensity, and pattern of vibrations for each end of the We-Vibe, and you can control the device using a smartphone app.

The We-Connect app allows you to control the device remotely. You can swipe through vibration patterns and turn the intensity up or down with a tap. The app also includes a Tips & Tricks section that addresses things like “What are some other ways to use the We-Vibe?”, “Can the We-Vibe be inserted anally?”, or “Is it OK to play with the We-Vibe in a hot tub?” (The answer to that last question is “Yes”. It is 100 percent waterproof!). It also answers the very important question, “Will I like it too much?”

Actually, I think that is a silly question, but let’s address that real quick. I guess there are men out there who feel intimidated by toys or feel like the pleasure a partner derives from the toy is somehow a threat to their own masculinity. I couldn’t disagree more. For my wife and I, the toys add adventure and a whole different level of intimacy and arousal for both of us.

Now, let’s get back to the vibrator and talk about my very favorite part–connecting a lover remotely through the app. This feature allows me to control the We-Vibe from anywhere in the world more or less–as long as my smartphone can connect to my wife’s smartphone. Her smartphone acts as a proxy–providing the local connection between the smartphone and the We-Vibe itself, but through the app I can control the device. I love being able to have that sort of control and to choose when and how to stimulate my wife even when I am out of town on business. She appreciates it as well–because there is a sense of surprise. She never knows when I will increase or decrease the speed or intensity, or change the vibration pattern.

Granted, just because it’s a “couples” vibrator does not mean that it can’t be used solo. As effective as it might be in bringing a woman to orgasm sans penis, though, I think the real We-Vibe experience using it as a couples vibrator during intercourse is the way to go.

The We-Vibe Plus 4 isn’t cheap. It retails for $180. It is an investment I would make again, though, and I highly recommend you give the device a try.
